Say goodbye to Bender...

If all goes well, he will be adopted tomorrow. I'm very sad, because he's the sweetest, most beautiful little dog we've fostered. I came within inches of adopting him myself... but that would have meant no more fostering.

I'll be taking a few days off to recover, and then I think a wee tiny one... check back on Friday for more puppy adventures!

He only LOOKS sad!

I was starting to wonder why each puppy I got was better than the one before. But we're now on puppy #7, and it's unlikely that I'm actually getting exponentially better puppies one after the other. I think what's happening is that I'm carrying my attachment from each puppy over to the next one, so every one is harder to give up than all the ones before. And in fact Bender isn't the sweetest puppy in the world after all, and no one will adopt him and I will have to keep him!

Bender had a great day - way more bounce in his step now that he's feeling confident. But I think he will always be a snuggle-bunny. He'll just need a bigger couch.

NEAR and FAR

Bender spent the night in a crate. Two different ways: first, with the crate FAR from the bed. Why, it must have been two feet at least. Poor Bender thought he was going to die. After about 1/2 hour of puppy-sobbing, I pulled the crate NEAR the bed (i.e. right up beside my head, so I could put my hand down in front of the crate door.) Bender didn't say boo for the rest of the night. Even in the morning when I opened the door he was just laying quietly.

So we know Bender doesn't mind crates. They just have to be in the right place... now we'll begin separating just a little bit, so his adoptive family won't have to snuggle him to work in a briefcase.

The Shadow

This is too funny.

I'm putting up wallpaper in the main floor bathroom (just decorative strips - not the whole wall). I'm cutting, glueing, pasting up, walking back and forth between the coffee table and the bathroom - about 8' apart. And everytime I make a trip, Bender goes with me. But he doesn't just stand around while I'm pasting or cutting, oh no! At each destination, he lays down and looks for all the world as though he's fast asleep.

So Bender has had about 24 naps today and has gone for 24 walks.

Bender Recipe

2 parts Lab
1 part Golden Retriever
1 part Rotweiller
1 part Husky

Combine until batter is soft, fluffy and cream colored, very affectionate with humans, quietly playful with other dogs, timid (but not shy), awesome on a leash - almost like a seeing eye dog! and gentle with black cats named Jack.

Age 3 months and voila! A perfectly Beautiful Bender!

What can I say?

This dog is photogenic!

More Bender...

Really, he is beautiful, isn't he? I can see him being a great therapy dog. He's very calm and mature... but they all are until they settle in. We'll see what the next few days brings!
